Sporting Club Isle of Man (the ‘Club’) is delighted to announce it has become the new headline sponsor of the Manx Youth Games from 2022 to 2024.
The Club will support the Manx Sport and Recreation event for the next three Games, reinforcing a commitment to support the Manx community by promoting their existing social and sporting capital.
The Manx Youth Games are the biggest multi-sport event for young people from school years 2 – 10 in the Isle of Man. The event attracts over 1000 participants across a variety sports with over 50 weekly training sessions delivered across the Island by qualified sports coaches.
The programme offers young people the opportunity to try new sports or activities from January until the games, and encourages participants to continue with sport throughout the year.
Tony Keating, Chair, Sporting Club Isle of Man said:
The Manx Youth Games has long been established as a major part of the Isle of Man’s community and sporting calendar and everyone involved with the Club is really looking forward to our involvement with the Games.
Sporting Club Isle of Man was established to provide a community owned structure to invest in creating opportunity through sport in the Isle of Man. In addition to our objectives of supporting our Island’s existing team sport infrastructure, and improving professional development opportunities and infrastructure on-Island, we are also driven to provide opportunities which will benefit as broad a range of our community as possible.
To now be the headline sponsor for the Manx Youth Games helps us achieve this final objective. Working in partnership with the DESC and MSR to create entry pathways, free from financial barriers, for school children to get into sport makes us incredibly proud.
Over the last decade tens of thousands of children have had fun, learnt about teamwork and collaboration, built friendships, and even found a love of sport through the Games. They are as important in providing our youth with the benefits that sport can have on their physical and mental wellbeing, as they are in facilitating the first step of the journey for our next generation of elite athletes.
With the support of our members, local foundations, trusts, philanthropists and volunteers we aim to provide both financial and non-financial support to sporting projects on the Island. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Scheinberg Family for their financial donation which has enabled us to fund the Manx Youth Games for the next 3 years.
Sporting Club looks forward to ensuring that the games can continue to provide accessible sport for our youth and look to build upon the solid foundations which have been established to date. This is an amazing initiative and one we will look forward to delivering a real legacy here on the Island.
Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for the Department of Education, Sport and Culture added:
We are delighted that Sporting Club Isle of Man have agreed to sponsor the Manx Youth Games, which has long been our department’s flagship sporting event for young people on our Island.
I would like to extend my thanks to the Club for their commitment to support the Manx Youth Games and I look forward to the exciting times ahead implementing some of the ideas which the new sponsor has to grow and strengthen this incredible initiative.
